Funnily enough each time I try to use my phone it says face not recognised. It’s not funny really but I’m amazed I forget. Every single time.
Jaw surgery last Sunday. 6+ hours. Agony for family friends waiting for news. When the news came through I have a vague memory of waking up and the three, yes three surgeons hovering. Turns out they were concerned about the asthma so into ITU I went. I have little recollection of that other than one -on -one care, kindness, attention to detail and empathy. They were also in touch with BARTs SevereAsthma team. Over the last two years in fact. In a remarkable communication breakthrough this had all been discussed planned for and drugs adjusted. One drug, the biologic injection I administer myself had been stopped. In a swift change of plan Daniel sped home and sped back with an injection pack for me to pump in. Successfully.
Once on the ward and grappling with trying to crush tablets dissolve them and somehow sip them was well horrible. I did manage to turn upside down a poster in tribute to Jan who had started her nhsland story here .

Home now and so the recovery progresses. Such weird dreams. I dreamt Maggie and I were in India with England netball team. We got lost. Got separated. Didn’t know what to do. Found a bar with a load of surgeons I know in. – they got us drinks and showed us how to get back ….
Before last week chief surgeon man suggested I hired an ice machine for my face. It’s amazing. Don’t want to send it back.

In all of this having waited two years for this I’ve lost sight of all the many reasons it was necessary and unavoidable. TMJ joint not withstanding 10 plates and a face like I’ve met some boxer in Luton is tough going.
However, friends family everyone being amazing. Thankyou everybody.
In the many gifts I’ve already received is a Tatler magazine. That rare commodity only seen in post op bedrooms.
It’s fascinating. You know what for a few £’000 you get get a spa holiday in Bali? Including iv vitamins. Full body check up. Holistic (?) treatments etc etc. Luton and Dunstable can do all that for a fraction of the cost.
More later. I’d post a photo but you’d not want to see.
PS Nadine. I’ve found the special cream you gave me for this recovery. However did you know? Thankyouuu

Sending you healing thoughts and looking forward to seeing you when you are up and about xxx
