Bay 1 Bed 3

Just a quick note from me. I’ll write properly tomorrow. For lots of reasons I’ve visited various people in hospital this week. It’s too dreadful to see the misery and unnecessary cruelty inflicted on the vulnerable.

Warm water jugs empty and anyway out of reach.

Medication on the side table. Untouched.

Meals left untouched. Removed. No one to encourage assist the eating thereof. Actually in this 4 bed bay a resident nurse is seated to watch over the elderly frail. But she did nothing but play on her phone. Catering staff delivered meals and took them away uneaten. Nurse did nothing at all.

Patient Min. Bed 3. Was sitting out. Shivering in the skimpy pink gown. She’d got her meds on her trolley. But hadn’t taken them. Nor had she touched her sandwich supper. At 17:00. No tv. No radio. No stimulus. She was confused about where she was. Or what day it was. Hardly surprising when the clock was wrong. It even said Tuesday. It’s Sunday.

Her swollen arm indicative of block cannula. Oh no said the nurse. It’s because of fluid. She must sleep with her arm in the air. You what? Absolutely bollocks. Totally utterly ridiculous and dangerous.

Talking of danger, the ward had no lock. No check on who was coming or going. Min planned to escape. She actually could. I persuaded her it might be best to stay. But how bad did I feel leaving her at the mercy of the rogue nurse.

What on earth can we do ?

It’s actually Sunday 7th and it is 1705.

  3. Surely this is not happening at the prestigious Sister Agnes hospital, or have you morphed to another one. What a time you are having. Hope you will be better soon. Sounds grim, and you are worrying about other patients but what about you? xxx N
