Meta-analysis

Quick update from London. I came to see orthopaedic surgeon who had operated 2:weeks ago. An arranged two week follow up. He and two nurses wrestled with bandages and alarmingly large scissors. or are they forceps ?

Foot looks horrible but now all plastered up again. up for 4 weeks more. pin sticking out for the duration.

He explained that he found that the toe and metatarsil had come apart as in dislocated. Tendon1 torn. tendon 2 ruptured. Ligaments torn. Toe without a metatarsil just locked and bent awkwardly.

…he cut his incisions down the top of my foot went in used some bone from meta to glue the first bit. Cleaned out the gross collection of infection . Partial amputated toe. Rejoined tendon 1 and split tendon 2 to make another. Screwed it all together and pinned to keep it immobile. Amazin. while we waited for nurse scalpel to arrive he drew it all out on the paper towel stuff.

Before is the second diagram. After shows the screw and pin. left edge side is the sole of my foot in both. No wonder it bloody hurt.

One question ? Why did my local hospital miss all that? since February? and indeed discharge me? shall I ask. ?

Meanwhile in ‘Knickergate’ as my old school-friends andI, (see last blog entry.) now call theTimes report on horror stories from schools. The journalist has been asked to pass on a letter. Here is what it said:

Please convey my completely identifying with Jacqueline Emkes especially with the one bath a week, clean undies (2 pairs for the whole week which were turned inside out sometimes) hair wash once a week nits etc. Re the white and navy knickers, even today I can’t convince people this was true. I now have proof!!

I determined that when I left school I would have clean underwear everyday. Sometimes more than once!

I’m laughing and laughing.

  1. Last week I found myself suffering the incompetence of my local hospital- nowhere near as bad a case as Jacq but incompetence just the same. Also, a friend who suffered a blinding headache and numbness down one side of his body took himself to the hospital because he thought he might be having a stroke. After an examination he was told he wasn’t and sent back home. Luckily/unluckily he suffered a stroke in the hospital car park. He will make a full recovery but still…… Could it be that we’re being misdirected by the town’s signposts. Instead of “Hospital” should it read “Most Expensive Car Park in the World” or possibly “Cheese Shop”!? I’m in there again tomorrow – have spoken to mortgage broker re: parking and will report back. What could possibly go wrong?

  3. I love the way it says to me , when I leave a comment: ‘your comment is waiting moderation’? ‘It will be visible after it has been approved’.
Is it due to my fruity language ??
