Stick a finger in

Friday. In the absence of culture results, one lot got left in the bottom of a bag, next lot only just done. At Jerome’s excellent suggestion he had made arrangements to change the catheter. The nurse and Jerome had everything in order. All cool and brilliant. So far so good. All dressed up in my next to nothing surgery gown. Why the hell can I not ever do it up?Anyhow…catheter change was easy…until I saw the catheter. I am so sorry said I . that is the wrong one. It gave me a bad reaction last time.Nurse C, is nice, I know her, but she said…no no it is fine.No no said Jerome…if Jacq says she wants it changed we change it. PHEW.So off she went. That left Jerome and I. So he took the suspect catheter out and rammed his finger in the hole in my tummy to keep it open. Later I realised it was in fact a syringe not his finger. Poetic licence prevails for blog. . Anyhow, there we were trapped in the treatment room, unable to move… either of us… chatting about books and locusts in China as you do……After a while poor C returned. She had found the right one. Jerome changed that for finger… syringe etc and tah dah. All is ok but bit sore for some unfathomable reason.I made it up the road. Got as far as Pret and realised everything was in spasm. So I hid in Pret toilets. Emerged.. Then bought a bottle of water. Re-hid in loo. Felt a bit better. Got pads and leg bag on.Swallowed painkillers.Got to St Pancras with tightly crossed legs. . I thought I was ok enough. But asked Daughter 2 to meet me in the loos! Out of nowhere as I waited in the queue, bladder just emptied all down my trousers…filled my shoes…carefully avoided the containment stupid bloody leg bag and useless pads. Great. I texted Daughter 2. HELP. Star that she is …she was there in a flash. Went off to buy more trousers, for me. I changed. We sat it out at Carluccio’s which only had one stinky loo.She had supper. I just kind of hoped. And sipped water.I got on train. Right by the loos. Some how or other I made it home….sometime after 10.30 ….got through the night with leg bag and night bag just in case. It calmed down, mostly. But now I must rush…to meet the newest baby in the family. Born a few hours after I got home . There is one very happy new father today. Son 1. Yusss. Wow Patsie wanted so much to see this one. But as husband D said. She probably has. Nice.

  1. OMG Jacq. Hurrah for the baby, and hurrah for Lou being there to help you… How do you cope with all this. I guess there is no alternative except not to cope.
xxx much love and a lot of awe and admiration xx N
makes me ashamed to complain about the ‘little things’ as I so often do…
