NHS at its worst. Daughter 1 is knocked off her bike by a van.
Ambulance would take over three hours to scrape her off the pavement.
Fortuitously a friend of mine happens to pass the scene. She takes charge. Scoops her off the pavement and in to A and E. Where I find them.
Daughter 1’s children get picked up. Her husband finds them. Meanwhile in hospital propped up in a chair in Treatment area B. That is AandE with every one pewking , broken, feverish. All in one room. Some have drips attached but with nowhere to hang the bags their families stand by them holding the infusions aloft. Some lie in the floor. Others just cry.
From time to time a doctor stands at the entrance to ‘the other side’. They call out a name. But invariably no one answers. It must be that they’ve been waiting so long they’ve surely died in their plastic blue seats. This is intolerable.
Before all this the violent burn marks I’ve sustained in surgery have begun to calm with antibiotics and steroids. My GP nurse appointment for all 32 staple removals was Wednesday night. Got to surgery. Nurse said they can’t do staples. Aha I said and brandished the kit from hospital. Eventually she decides she will take half of staples out. Then having succeeded she decided she could do all. Phew. But why is it always a hassle.why is it so dam difficult to do anything at all.
Then Daughter 2’s long overdue operation was cancelled 12 hours before it was scheduled. It happens. But actually this is the fourth time.
NHS come on get sorted this is just not acceptable.
