Hotel NHSia

I’m parked up outside MK Stadium. It’s got a hotel attached. At this rate I’ll be booking a room. I stopped here to go to Macdonald’s I needed a pee. A coffee. And big bottle of water . Got to neck some antibiotics uti will not budge.

Job done. Quite nice to just sit for a bit. Last time I was here it was for the Rugby World Cup…maybe 2015…and now it’s in Paris as I type. I have seen bits of it this week. England was a tad nerve wracking! Sorry Scotland.

The week here has gone from pretty crap to crappier. Is that really a verb adjective or just a word?. Who cares. I never did write essays. Just numbers.

Thank you for so many messages. I’ve not quite managed to keep up but seriously love hearing all the funnyisms of normal life beyond here.

In brief here is the news. But please don’t feel you have to read all this rubblish. It’s just my stream of conscious which once it’s here somehow is better.
Dad still in hospital. Covid. Fall. Bruises everywhere. In the week the staff were wonderful. Doctors were on strike until they returned on Thursday. First thing they did was discharge Dad. Well. That didn’t happen. No care plan. No home support. The Ward sister, his nurse , ward clerk and me had a meeting with the Doctor. She looked 12 and scared. We explained. We went through his notes on the robot screen thing and she readily agreed that maybe we needed to sort out a care plan.

Weekend staff have been absolutely shocking. The HCA sits in the six bay ward doing her nails. Or on her phone. Doing her nails as in using hospital scissors to cut her nails bits dropping on the floor. No exaggeration. When I asked if she could possibly help Dad shave she pronounced she didn’t DO
shaves. I rummaged around found some razors and gel
stuff. Did my best. Barbers need not worry. I’m absolutely no threat.

The ward sister in the week has been awesome. Today the on duty one said Dad was mobilised going to the bathroom , showering and quite independently walking. That’s odd I said. He’s got a catheter in because he went into retention yesterday. The catheter bag is bloody so there’s some trauma there. I gather he pulled one out….( She won’t know I’ve just been on a research call about that). He can’t walk on his own. He doesn’t know where he is let alone where the bathroom is and he can’t have a shower without help in case he falls. Oh well she said. I’m sure I saw him.

I gave up. I’ll start again tomorrow. Dad actually thinks he’s in a hotel. His bedroom is somewhere he assures me the staff are very nice.

Meanwhile my two sisters now also have Covid so they are in their homes bed bound and not up to helping.

Mum is at home recovering from Covid. Doing a bit bettter. Yesterday she panicked thinking she was going downhill. I went over to help her. Daughter 1 went to Dad. We both ended up calling Doctors nurses and generally getting involved with sorting these two stubbornly determined 88 year olds. In my case the very impressive 111 service got a Doctor to phone. That resulted in the most awesome urgent care nurse visiting at home and absolutely did everything to get mum on an even keel. We now have urgent response team on speed dial. Cool.

Meanwhile the rest of my children and Daniel have been away in
far flung corners of the World, UK and Europe. They are all returning today. Thank goodness, as we could really do with a bit more on the team here! . Now, I better go back to the hell of MKUH hospital or shall I book into this hotel?!

This could be heaven or this could be Hell

There were some voices down the corridor

I thought I heard them say

Welcome to the Hotel NHSia

Such a. Lovely place (?)

Not much room at the Hotel NHSia

any time of year, you can’t find it here…

And still those bells are ringing from far far away

Wake you up in the middle of the night just to hear them say

Welcome to Hotel NHSia such a lovely place

We live it up at the Hotel NHSis what a nice surprise

Last thing I remember…I was (actually) running for the door.

You can check out any time you like

But you can never leave…( credit to the good bits Eagles sorry about my terrible attempt to change it! )

This is true! The doors are locked and you have to hope that eventually someone sees you on CCTV to let you out.

Weirdly Dad is in ward Ward 2 A. But as a kindly security guard showed me. That is actually signed posted children’s ward and you follow the duck feet to find it. I am NOT joking ! Maybe I better check into Hotel California instead? Is there one? I could call for wine…or was it pink champagne in the song? 1969….help I am losing the plot…see you soon.

Hotel Californiaesque

Hotel NHSa Ward 2A obviously 🙄

  1. Is the Beast they are stabbing with their steely knives the NHS? I hope it’s not a patient. Thanks Jacq, pour it all out and we will drink it all in

  2. This had me reaching for my Safari button to listen to Hotel California and singalong with your verses. Like some mad nightmare for you. But you’ve got through a week with precious little help, and now maybe things will look up. It does not sound as though your Dad is well enough to leave. I wonder which bit of the hospital he’s one. They describe them by colours, don’t they, and I remember those duck feet. Nick was well looked after there most of the time. What a difficult time for them both and for you. Not easy to look after two old parents set in their ways and you not in good health either. Meanwhile the weather has gone mad. Hot and sunny hear roses and dandelions out ; and seven inches of rain in Scotland on one day. What is happening? Much love xx N Loading… Loading…
