Of mice and men

I started this blog way back in 2009. It was an attempt to send one email instead of lots, to let my friends know what was happening. I actually have no idea who reads the blog, such is the wonder of blogology.  However, I get so many brilliant messages back.  Friends  write, clearly they’ve read latest blog.  I think they know more than I do! In an attempt to answer all recent emails in one, here goes, with a brief summary of April so far. pexels-photo-96603.jpeg

March was funerals,  hospitals and son#1. To answer the questions, Son#1, our nephew, was orphaned when he was just starting school. Sadly his father had contracted acquired immune deficiency syndrome, yep, that sounds better than AIDS.  At that time, such was the stigma and discrimination, they thought we would disown them. Of course, we did not. Unbeknown to them we had experience, we were looking after another such sufferer.   The massive efforts medics made  to find solutions, were too late for them. Its been so long we don’t even mention it anymore. So I realise that might come as a surprise.  Son#1 is very much OK as are we all.  His is not a story for this blog. It just I hope answers some questions.

Moving on to the weekend, more brilliant messages of condolence and lovely Easter wishes. Thank-you so very much.  A taster…..

N to meLovely thanks; loadsa children and grandchildren, oh joy, and the usual too much chocolate syndrome , mixed in with my brain/oven malfunction. And you??

Me to N:Well in true Crazy lady style…Son#2 came home Friday. Really unwell. Rash, much pain etc so I took him to the on-call GP thingy…verdict ?shingles…argh…so we sort of shuttled around seeing parents, Daughter#1 and keeping him away from them all. Hoping we are immune… are we ?!

As for bladderations:  Jerome organised bloods and urine tests for me,  2 weeks ago.  For some unfathomable reason nice nurse messed up and rang to say I would have to go back. But alas with Son#2 ill,  I could not get there. I fixed to request GP  ‘form’. I had to use my secret code to speak to GP, it worked. Phew.  Meanwhile, nice nurse has tried to help by texting me….

nice nurse to me: Good morning its ** here from hospital. We are waiting for you for the blood tests.

Me:I am  so sorry.  I left you a message. I am unable to attend as my son is unwell. Massive apologies.

nice nurse to me: I wish him a quick recovery. Let me know when you can reschedule tests.

Me to nice nurse: Please don’t worry I have arranged locally. …………………..

It goes on and on….

He:Good morning it’s**here from hospital. I was wondering if you have managed to re-schedule your blood test collection.

MePlease don’t worry I have arranged locally and let consultant know.

He:  I am worried that your doctor not having the results to see you.

Me:Worry not. I will tell him its my fault. I will sort results from GP.

He: That’s not fair. You are such a nice person…we will get your bloods done….

Poor man, he is sitting there with needle poised ready and he is really nice . As Jerome suggested, at least he had the time for texts and emails. You’ve got to admire the persistence….But, what sort of doctor does he think Jerome is, to have not sussed an absence of patient for over two weeks..?

Bladder and kidney loved the whacking doses of antibiotics I had for the weeks of chest infection. But now have got irritated.  After a flurry of electronic communication, masterminded by Jerome, we tracked down Uncle Montmerency. He emailed sometime in the middle of the night. He has found a bladder calming potion. It works on mice apparently.  So that’s good. I think? He will help me get some,  from Sweden of all places. (I would love to go back there. Let’s go. Patsy?…Absolutely fabulous English patients ….). Jerome joined the messaging through the night,  bloody hell, poor him, does he ever get a chance to sleep? He even managed a funny analogy Uncle Montmerency could now be named John as in Steinbeck…. Of Mice and Men’ !

Should that be Women?

Fingers crossed
