No further news. No results. No nothing. Radio silence from the drs. I am Pouring in anything I can think of and hoping Uncle Montmerency will be in touch….pleeeeaaasssseee.
Can’t stop sneezing. So Uncles’ flu bugs or, (more likely ) allergy to hyacinths I encountered yesterday. Seriously for some reason they make me sneeze, crazy lady that I am. Loud sneezes are better for us according to Twitter.
Quite apart from all this, there has been an interesting exchange on twitter. Aimed at surgeons. They were discussing allergies. In particular contrast dye allergy. I discovered I was allergic to that when this all began. I declare it at check in for every procedure. The lack of transferable notes between hospitals, doctors and patients means the patient must coordinate the information. So of course the doctor must trust/ believe the patient. If she says she’s allergic she actually probably is allergic. The twitter feed was interesting because this was not generally understood.
This reminded me of one of my spinal procedures. I told admitting nurse, other nurses, anaesthetist, theatre staff, everyone, that I was allergic to contrast dye. The put a red band on my wrist. ALLERGIC. The surgeon had operated on me many times. Never one to make eye contact or small talk he clearly knew best…. he used ……….CONTRAST…… I reacted badly, as in anaphylactic badly, ooops… maybe patients sometimes do know something? Can’t repeat here what D said when he was told….
Why am I allergic ? Goodness only knows . as a child our family travelled the world. One of my fathers’ postings was to Singapore. From memory an amazing wonderful country. Every Friday I went to the local ‘ Brownie Guides’. I loved that. Pixie sixer…brownie guide promises etc….Every Friday I returned to special supper. massive Prawns and chocolate cake. As you do! My mothers’ eclectic strategy to feed us, her way! Every Saturday I vomited horrendously, suffered sight loss and massive headaches. This went on for months. My doctor shy mother* eventually contacted an awesome Chinese doctor who did clever allergy tests. Guess what? Chocolate gave me migraines, prawns made me sick. #RocketScience not. So I’ve never eaten chocolate since and prawns with care. .
How did that evolve into the multi allergy adult, that I now am?.
*my mother fainted at the sight of blood, needles and white coats. So bad was it that as kids we called my father at work if we ever split heads open or broke bones. And told her to hide in another room! It was a seriously bad affliction which affected her for years. However, she now LOVES all the Hospital gory programmes on tv! She’s a world bloody expert.
But, please no chocolate! Prawns in moderation. My mother still sometimes forgets, even had a chocolate birthday cake for my birthday!
