House of Commons
I was also honoured to be invited to attend the All Party Political Group (APPG) Continence meeting at the House of Commons on Wednesday 18th November. Hosted by Baroness Greengross, this was attended by NHS England Excellence in Continence Care Board(EICC). This board for which I am Patient Advocate, announced and explained new guidance: Practical Guidance for Commissioners, Providers Health and Social Care staff and information for the Public. Sarah Elliott Chief Nurse, NHS England ( South) led on this. In addition Dr Clare Gerada former chair of the Royal College of GPs and Partner at the Hurley Group, spoke on how CCGs and GPs implement the new NHS England Guidance on Continence Care.
Finally the Chief Medical Officer Professor Dame Sally Davies was represented by Dr Sohier Elneil who presented the CMO Report on Women’s Health. Crucially this report which is due to be published in December, has a whole section on continence. The next focus will be on women 50-70, so again this will have parallels.

The overwhelming evidence from all those who spoke and the many eminent clinicians, UCLH predominantly, ( see below), also in attendance, was that continence is not just basic but actually an essential area for CCGs, GPs and the general public to raise awareness, improve education and resources, finding ways to ensure that this is a non-negotiable area to be addressed across the country.
I am only a patient but my impression is that all those present felt that this was a well overdue initiative which demanded immediate action with measures to ensure compliance and accountability attached.
The guideline can be found in this
