Non medical….reminder of another world I do inhabit. BBC news, yes daytime viewing! Lots about Tech not being used properly in schools. Like anything I would say it is another tool. It is, when used well part of a teacher’s box of tools to enhance teaching and learning. Behaviour control is key. For example in maths when calculators were first introduced ( remember that?) we asked for them to be put ‘under a chair’ when they proved too distracting. Nowadays they are as commonplace as a pencil and ruler. And yes a pencil and ruler are wonderful to poke another student with, compass to hole out a desk. How do we sort that out? well behaviour management of course. Can you imagine the day a pencil was invented? Oh my days…lead poisoning, sharp weapon, shavings….oh deary dear…what a worry. The iPencil news must have been rife with horror stories.
When used well, when used sensibly, when behaviour can be orderly…yes I know it is not always like that, then Tech can be fantastic. If it does not work. Close the laptops. Turn off the PC. Shut down the wifi. Confiscate the phones. WHO IS in charge round here?
Stop all the wifi
Cut off the pc’s
Prevent the mobiles from ringing
Silence the tablet devices
Bring out the paperand pencils.
