Day 8 home day

ay 8 Wednesday 19th

Then it was Wednesday, home day. Delighted to beat the pre-op estimate of 14 days…Take home So many drugs and bits and bobs, conti pads bags of drugs and products. But with a huge hug to everyone time to go. back

Off I went up the M1 and home. Fabulous indeed to be away from the buzzing buzzers, to the wonderful own bed. But I admit it, away from all that security all that reliance on professionals home alone that is scary too. How to assemble the drains and bits? How to keep everything clean? Sort out the drugs?  Dry out the night kit? Assemble the day kit? How on earth does that connector connect to that one? oooooh.

One day I will write a guide. Essential kit at home: NB buy before you fly

Stick-on-hook for shower…= night bag dry and drain for the day cost = 50p max

How to find and ring secret District Nurse number to register for 24/7

i.e. Mr J Hunt, …that means we can ring anytime of day or night any day any night bank holiday even, nurses speed round to change dressings, change bags, unblock the unblock able, amazing cheerful wonderful team.

How to get more catheter bags , frames for the broken one I was sent home with….I now know the answers and I thought I knew it all last time. But no.

How to cut the origami style dressings to fit around and within the cath.

How to stop worrying that the night bag will leak all over the floor. ( see entries way back in 2011) answer: put it in a washing up bowl…simples.

How to answer the doorbell without rushing downstairs trailing catheter bag frame and ALL….that’s another story.

and more….anyhow for now…I’m home I’m sorting it….I can do it….of course I can. Sugar…help where is Spanish T, Irish M, Brother E or Sister wotsit, leaping gazelle T@night, oh dear I wonder if they ever wonder how we all get on when released from their clutches. Arghhhhhh. Help. Brave up for the family. Let them think you know it all you are cured all is well don’t show weakness….oh um er….

Some extras:

What did they do?

So what did they do? Skip this if you hate the gory details…

They as in S1 S2, reconstructed bladder, took down Boari ( bladder reconstruction to join up to ureter in 2011)..but couldn’t get to old ureter for right kidney. But have sealed off.. and then they used ( or as they call it…..harvested and grafted] some of my abdomen to make a kind of parabola to shove.  bladder etc up to create more tension/pressure which should then graft everything into a more stable place.  Very very clever stuff. Not been done like this ever before. Don’t Google it is not there!

End result will of course take time to assess. Main expected outcome is few or no infections.

Then all fixed and done. Ta Da!
