Day 7 Tuesday 18th

DAY 7 Tuesday 18th

Surgeon 2 turns up. Confirmed S1 has not been in touch. Agreed he planned to send me home with 2 catheters. But says doesn’t matter. Good that I asked hospital to ring him over weekend. Suggested I could  go home Wednesday after stitches out. No need to check scar etc and departed. Seconds later Registrar arrived . You have an infection he announced. Need antibiotics. Argh. Help I fumed. Just a minor hiccup surely. Pah. Don’t tell anyone…just my brother thousands of miles away. He blamed a sudden onset of Tourettes for his response.that certainly matched mine.

pm L popped in after work at just down the road.  She munched her healthy salad takeout  supper whilst I tried for the n+1 th time to order a small fudgy gift for nurses as a thank you. Eventually I got it  I think morphine not only slowed me down it actually slowed down my laptop too which chose to freeze and lose my order n+1 times. grr. Swappin jolly banter with L there was a knock at the door, baffled nurses once more announce arrival of yet another surgeon.  Qué? now who?  ha None other than infamous Jerome himself. Before he had even sat down there’s a giggly story to repeat. No need to introduce him to L.   Must be Mr X she guessed correctly.   Well no , he corrected I am Jerome. Well , we chatter at top speed from France to trains to planes to the saga of S1 and S2, not forgetting Mr B and all the rest..then the menu issue, Daniel arrived and joined in. Poor J he must have wanted an early night and managed to extricate himself to see more patients to check on their progress and offer empathy and comfort after his ministrations.. Still giggling we let him go…. not before he spied the array of electrical leads in the wall er must be a major grid overload iPad iPhone iMac all essential imedical kit you know’ said me.  eek bet he saw my toe nail varnish too. Oops. Nothing passes that man by.

I thanked him by email:

J

Thank you very much for coming here last evening.

We all agreed that piecing together the   story of the last two weeks with our own particular brand of chattery humour, is not only funny but of enormous value to the worried * family and groggy patient.

There are a few more stories to tell, I sense a blog entry necessary!

One thing family do not know† is that a new infection had started the day before. On basis of lab report reg went for cipro and has left message for Montmerency.   EThe-Excellent-Ward- Sister (brother?) is on the case.

Fortunately and to my considerable relief CIPRO working fast and I’m really OK or statistically 150% ? better than I had ever anticipated at this point.

Have a good rest of week.

Thank you very much

J

*despite moh-no1y best efforts D has clung onto S’s statistical risk assessment. The 1%mortality being the top in his own mind. That level of anxiety is disproportionate but  borne of years of worry . Let’s face it driving down the m1 every day must have a higher %.

† on the basis that D would have an anxiety attack,my parents would panic and down a bottle of scotch,my sisters would cry and my brother would get the next transatlantic flight to be here. Arghhhh.
